Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council

The FLEPPC was founded in Florida in 1984 for the purpose of focusing attention on the impacts of exotic pest plants, habitat loss due to exotic plant infestations, impacts of exotic pest plants on endangered species, informing and educating resource managers about which species deserve to be monitored, and more.

National Academy of Sciences Committee for the Restoration of the Greater Everglades Ecosystem (CROGEE)

This committee provided independent scientific review of key aspects of the restoration of the South Florida Ecosystem. CROGEE was disbanded on December 31, 2004.

INFORMATION SITES

Everglades Program Team, U.S. Department of the Interior

The DOI Everglades Program Team, established in June, 2000, will provide the Department of Interior and its affiliates with increased scientific and technical capacity to assess the potential impacts of south Florida restoration efforts on the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge and the Everglades National Park, the two "book-ends" of the remnant Everglades.

The South Florida Natural Resources Center (SFNRC) is a division of Everglades National Park providing scientific information and environmental assessments to the National Park Service units of South Florida and to the Department of the Interior.

U.S. Coral Reef Task Force

The U.S. Coral Reef Task Force was established in June 1998 through Executive Order 13089 on coral reef protection to lead the U.S. response to this growing, global environmental crisis. The Task Force is responsible for overseeing implementation of the Executive Order, and developing and implementing coordinated efforts to map and monitor U.S. coral reefs; research the causes and solutions to coral reef degradation; reduce and mitigate coral reef degradation from pollution, over fishing and other causes; and implement strategies to promote conservation and sustainable use of coral reefs internationally.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION SITES

Everglades Radio Network

Motorists along Alligator Alley can now tune into an educational radio program about America’s Everglades while coasting the hour-long stretch of Interstate 75. Hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida's Everglades Radio Network features facts about the Everglades ecosystem, its wildlife and habitat, along with a history of the Everglades and the natural and man-made forces affecting its future. The Everglades Radio Network also broadcasts via their website.

Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science - Everglades Restoration Project

The Task Force has a formal public-private Partnership Agreement with the Museum of Discovery and Science, which now serves as an official interpretive site for the Greater Everglades Restoration Project. We invite you to visit the Living in the Everglades exhibit, which was designed to help educate the public about the restoration efforts for the Greater Everglades Ecosystem. Over the last 2 years, the Living in the Everglades exhibit was instrumental in educating nearly one million visitors about our Everglades restoration efforts.
