The
Bureau of Indian Affairs fulfills its trust responsibility to Indian tribes
through a variety of programs. The Miccosukee and Seminole Indian Tribes reservations
(located in South Florida) are an integral part of the Everglades
ecosystem. Today, approximately 462,000
acres (720 sq mi) in South Florida are considered Indian lands. The traditional and modern lifestyles of the
430 Miccosukee tribal members and 2,500 Seminole tribal members are carried out
on these trust lands.
