ALIEN INVADERS

AN ASSESSMENT OF INVASIVE EXOTIC PLANTS IN FLORIDA

READ-AHEAD DRAFT OF THE INTRODUCTION PORTION OF THE ASSESSMENT

CONTEXT FOR THIS DOCUMENT

This document is only a part of a larger document that is being developed as a Strategic Plan for managing Florida’s invasive exotic plants. The South Florida Restoration Task Force and Working Groups to provide a management strategy for invasive exotic plants as part of the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Initiative sanctioned the Plan development. The Strategic Plan consists of two main sections, an Assessment of the current status of invasive exotic plants in Florida, and the Strategic Plan itself.

The Assessment is broken down into three basic parts; part one is the Assessment or status of the invasive exotic plants, part two is a compilation of reports on each agency that is involved in this process and their invasive exotic plant management programs, and part three is an executive summary of the findings of the Assessment.

The Strategic Plan is broken down into two main parts; part one is the plan itself with the strategies, goals and recommended actions included, and part two is an executive summary of the major points of the Strategic Plan with highlights of the goals and actions.

The portion that is included here is only the introduction from the Assessment portion of the plan. This piece, as part of the whole, is still in draft form and revisions are expected, however, the content of this section is in near final form as several prior reviews have occurred. The copy format will not be the same in the final document as it is here however. In other words, the document will look different but will contain essentially the same content but with minor revisions.

Since this document is still a working document it should not be cited or information contained herein used for other purposes. However, since this may occur anyway the following citation and credits should be used.
